February 8 (Sunday)
Lois & Ray out about 11:30 AM. Overall things look good - someone has been here - nothing written in the book. Part of hasp & bolt gone from one of no. kitchen windows. Food left in a pan. Nice mess. Bottom bolt gone from bdrm window. Sunny - 40 degrees. Road snow covered on hill out of here. Ray will chain up to get out. Ray fixed a few things. Getting ready to go - 2:30 about. 2 dogs a boy & girl up by boat messing around. Ray told them to leave.

February 14 (Sunday)
Happy Valentines Day! 1:56 PM Brad Smith & Libby Poor in. 41 degrees. Things look ok. Not much wood in the yard - funny how it gets consumed & not replaced.

February 15 (Monday)
1247 PM Brad Smith & Libby Poor ready to go. Saw two bear tracks in road on hill. Cleaned cabin including someone else's utensils. Responsibility seems to be down, or could it be intelligence? I guess we'll never know. Have a good day.

April 12 (Sunday)
Ray & Lois Smith in at 12:PM to check out things. Everything looks good. Two new gates to go thru at Mark's. Rat signs around porch - we'll leave them some goodies. Cool breeze - 44 degrees. Partially sunny. Spring looks good. Getting ready to leave - 1:30 pm. Will check gates on way out.

April 18 (Saturday)
Kevin & Michele up to have a taco & burrito pickanic. Michele's B-Day. Up for about an hour. Plesent spring day. Everything looks of order. Missing a few shingles on roof. Call if you need someone.

May 2 (Saturday)
Dana & Mary in 12:45 a.m. - 46 degrees & wet but not raining - up at 8:00 - 43 degrees & Sunny. Must've been hot yesterday as living room pretty warm still.
Ray, Lois, Ray Jr. in about 1:30 PM. Nice warm cabin - cool outside. Dana, Ray, & Ray fixed corner of porch and put up a new post - good job! - Looks great. 40 degrees at 4:00 PM - clear outside. Dana found 2 ticks today.

May 3 (Sunday)
Up at 7:00 - 44 degrees & cloudy but clearing. Spit a couple of drops of rain about 6 or so. Guys fixed some fence by the Clarabelle. Dana & Mary left 2 PM - the day is beautiful. 68 degrees at 2:30 PM. Guys also cut some jacklegs (stacked behind garage.) Did some light housecleaning - main parts will be done later. Water is way down in well and spring. Getting ready to go - 4 PM.

May 22 (Friday)
Joann & Hank N. in at 5. Nice & sunny but had showered on way up. Everything nice & clean. Garbage can tipped - a bear? Yes. 50 degrees. Snow pile northside woodshed. Found pile bear poop in bushes near outhouse. Lilacs are still pretty. Lots of them! Dana & Mary in at 11 pm.

May 23 (Saturday)
42 degrees, up at 7:00. Sunny & beautiful. Grass sure green from the rain - looks really good! Sheila N - S in at 6 p.m. J. saw a coyote by cowshed. Rained in a.m. Nice afterwards. Bear sign at spring. Shot a young rock chuck by cellar. Saw 5 deer on hill.

May 24 (Sunday)
42 degrees Up at 7:00. Sunny. Kids heard a porky under the porch in night. Karen arrived 12:00 PM. Paul arrived 1:30 PM. Rained in evening. Kevin & Chele arrived 6:30 PM. Had supper. Planted 6 flowering crab trees. Cut 3 big tree limbs from tree by garage.

May 25 (Monday)
52 degrees at 9:30 AM. A BLM rep, Michael Hardy from Butte office, came in for permission to go in and out mapping BLM boundaries. Will be coming and going all summer. Kevin & Michele out at 12:00 - still raining. Cleaning up. Ready to leave - N's & Karen - 1:30 pm. Scott Lucero & daughter in to climb rocks.

June 12 (Friday)
Ray & Lois in about 1:30 PM or so. Vaughn, Kevin, Michele here. Overcast but warm - 80 degrees. Vine looks puny. Everything else looks fairly good. 68 degrees - clear - 11 PM.

June 13 (Saturday)
56 degrees - 7 AM. Sunny. Ray got out early to to cut the dead tree toward S.E. corner. Short stretch of corner fence down at S.E. Kevin and Ray worked to get the tree down - it didn't want to say die! Kids left about noon - did some wood chopping first. Some ugly critters (rock chucks?) by the woodshed and by the woodpile out by the garage. Two bunnies are around - may be cutting the vine off at the bottom - something is. HOT! 86 degrees - 1 PM. Ray & Lois getting ready to go - 2:30 PM.

June 26 (Friday)
Dana & Mary in 12:45 pm - 74 degrees still.

June 27 (Saturday)
63 degrees @ 6:45 - sunny - HOT. The vine has re-leafed - looks really good. Cleaned up branches cut Memorial Day - rock between cabin & toilet fell down.
Joann, Hank, Ray, & Lois in about 6:30 PM. Went to big wedding in Helena - Phillip St. George & Debra Norid (?) nice wedding. 68 degrees - 11:15 PM. Saw a martin/fisher ? on rocks Sat. p.m.

June 28 (Sunday)
62 degrees @ 6 a.m. Dana, Mary, Ray, Hank, Joann went walking & looking at latest survey lines. Locked up & left at 11:30.

June 29 (Monday)
9:20 AM. Ray & Rodger in to mow the lawn. 60 degrees 1:50 P.M. heading home. R.C.S

July 9 (Thursday)
Kevin & Michele in to bring rugs back.

July 10 (Friday)
50 degrees - rainy. Joann, Hank, Lois, Ray in about 7 P.M. Took Smiths 6+ hrs to get here. Ray played in the mud on the north slope - worked his butt off getting out. Went back to Mont. City exit and came in thru Mark's! Daneil came about 8:30 PM. Went No. way, turned around & came So. way. Dana in about 11:PM with no problems. Ha! 50 degrees - 12AM.

July 11 (Saturday)
Up at 7:30 - 47 degrees. Cloudy. Clearing. Snow on nearby peaks. Overcast most of the day. Paul N. here about 1:30 PM. Brad S. came about 3 PM. David P. & cousin Steve Phillips here about 3:30, left about 4, heading for Calif. Bob Bartlett here (8) for the night from guard drill. Clear, full moon. 48 degrees - 11 PM.

Jul 12 (Sunday)
7 A.M 42 degrees Clear and Calm. Bob & friends circled in helicopter 8:30 AM. Hank cooked breakfast. Work detail cut wood, hauled wood. Cut rose bushes, etc. Dana left for Blgs 4:30 PM, Brad for GtFs, Paul for Msla 5:30 PM. 76 degrees - 2 PM. Ray Smith Jr., Jason, Lyrra, & Amber in about 8:30 PM. 55 degrees - 11 PM.

July 13 (Monday)
Cloudy - calm, 50 degrees at 6:20 AM. Daneil & Bob headed to BZN 8:30 AM. Daneil gets to go to work. Guys put stove panels on wall behind stove. Joann was our "Char", Lois cleaned one bdrm. J&L also took kids up around rocks. Everyone rested in afternoon - 80 degrees - 4:PM. Beautiful day.

July 14 (Tuesday)
54 degrees at 7:00 AM. Clear and calm. Forecast at 90 degrees. 90 degrees @ 4 p.m. Hank & Jason S. climbed the cliff before breakfast. Ray & Ray jr. made a new gate - really a neat job! Ray left for G. F. at 4. Too hot for any birds or livestack. 60 degrees - 11 PM Clear H & J slept outdoors.

July 15 (Wednesday)
Temp. 60 degrees Time 7:am Clear Calm. (very beautiful out last nite) Ray Smith Jr., Jason, Lyrra, & Amber left for Msla (Lolo) about 11AM. Joann cleaned back bdrm. Hank took a shower. Melted in the afternoon - 90 degrees. Hot wind in eve. Went up to Strawberry lookout. Hank went to the top & visited with female looker. Couldn't see homestead because of sun & Haze. Good road, nice drive. Back about 9PM. Saw coyote toward no. gate. 70 degrees - 10:30 PM.

July 16 (Thursday) Temp 58 degrees - Calm, clear. Partly cloudy last nite, no rain. Hank, Joann, Lois went to Deer Lodge via Butte, went thru Grant - Kohrs ranch & old prison. Then came back to H. S. via Hln, here at 7P.M. 70 degrees - nice day - cooler! Overcast - 60 degrees 10:30 PM.J & L saw 2 martens in the rocks in the morning behind the cabin.

July 17 (Friday)
Temp 52 degrees Rain. Lite breeze at times. 7:15 a.m. Ray S. in about 8:30AM from Gt Fs. Joann & Lois went to Hln for several hrs. Too wet to do much. Men saw a deer behind "library". 50 degrees 4:30PM RAINING! Rain quit for a short while in the eve., started again about 10:30PM - still 50 degrees.

July 18 (Saturday)
Sat - RAINING! 50 degrees - 8:30AM. Hank & Ray showed us how to play pinochle - beat 5 out of 6 games. Also played Scrabble - full day while it rained. Rained, stopped around 2PM, then showered off & on until evening. 56 degrees about 6. 50 degrees - 11:30PM - clearing. Ray walked down to 1/4 corner east & scared up a fawn - still spotted.

July 19 (Sunday)
48 degrees @ 7:30 A.M. Clear. Packed up, cleaned cabin, ready to leave at 12:30 p.m. R & L Smith H & J Neidhardt

August 7 (Friday)
Dana & Mary in @ 11:25 pm. Moonlight & beautiful. Fresh tracks in from cabin through Kennedy. Window by stove open and shutter unlatched.

August 8 (Saturday)
Up at 8 - 53 degrees. Sunny. Got into the 80's or so. Went to go to Strawberry Lookout but road was closed. Walked 1/4 mile or so till you could see homestead. Neat view! Found huge patch of knapweed on way back, on road about 1/2 way to west gate. Spent 1 hour pulling weeds but hardly made a dent. Will burn in open later. Dug out firepit.

August 9 (Sunday)
Sunny & 56 degrees @ 7:15. Had breakfast & took a walk to fence by Scheule's - pulled 193 trees in open area where trees had died & fallen down & grass was coming back. Found more knapweed in gulch above HS. Had lunch - swept up & left about 1:PM. 80 degrees!

August 22(Saturday)
Dana & Mary in 12:05 am. Smells closed up - doesn't look disturbed since we were here last! - 55 degrees. Up at 7 AM - 44 degrees, sunny. Had breakfast then "fertilized" the knapweed patch on the flat with a shot of 2,4-D. Went to Canyon Ferry in the PM, then shot some more knapweed & thistle in the gulch above the cabin afterwards. 68 degrees & high overcast @ 9:00 PM.

August 23 (Sunday)
53 degrees & sunny @ 7:30. Clouded up & spit about 10:30. 64 degrees & still trying to rain when we left at 12:45.

DHP in at about 3PM. Raining & 66 degrees. Visited w/M. Krypen.

August 24 (Monday)
No suntan today - moisture in the clouds. 55 degrees @ 7:30. Will leave about 10AM.

August 27 (Thursday)
Ray & Hank in at 11:30 AM. 68 degrees. Suntan weather. Brad in 2:45 pm. Got started on the new roof. Don P. in at about 3:00 P.M.

August 28 (Friday)
7:00 a.m. Calm clear. Roof work started. Bob & Daneil here about 5:30 PM. Brad's friend Libby Poor from GtFs here about 7 PM. Joann & Lois here from GtFs 9 or so - Joann drove all the way from the Smith house! The Fri nite party was in progress - even Hank stayed up past 10PM - WOW.

August 29 (Saturday)
54 degrees - 7:30 AM - calm. The work force was up on the job by 8:30 AM. Winston & Lenora Dorr here around 10 AM to help with our project. The roof was 98% completed when supper break was taken - rib roast furnished by DHP. Hank nailed a rockchuck of the rocks with one shot - "deadeye Henry"! Dorrs retreated to Clancy about 9 PM to rest at Lenora's relates. Everyone in bed early.

August 30 (Sunday)
44 degrees - 7 AM - calm. Dorrs here about 9AM - finish work started on roof, done before noon. J & H left for C Bank about 2PM. 80 degrees - 2PM, feels hotter. Dorrs, Brad & Libby, Ray & Lois gone by 3PM. DHP & Bob Bartlett holding down the fort. Nite Nite at 10:30.

August 31 (Monday)
Bob B & DHP present & accounted for. 50 degrees & clear at 7AM - heading out between 9 & 10AM.

September 5 (Saturday)
Ray & Lois in about 1PM. Everything looks good except much drier than a week ago. Sunny, some breeze. 70 degrees. Ray jr, & Jason, Lyrra, & Amber over from Lolo about 5:30 - 6 PM. Watched the nearly-full moon come over the mtns. Everything was absolutely beautiful.

September 6 (Sunday)
Nice & sunny - 50 degrees - 7:15 AM. Dorrs here about 11:30AM. Cloudy. Cool air. Guys cutting some wood. Brad & Libby showed up about 2PM, came over from Lincoln to check on us. Cool all afternoon.

September 7 (Monday)
LABOR DAY - 42 degrees - 7:30AM. Sunny. Saw a doe & fawn feeding. Everyone relaxed most of day. Guys did go down to S.E. corner and fix the cut fence. Brad & Libby gone about 4 PM. Everybody else packing to leave - 4:30PM. 76 degrees Sunny.

October 27 (Tuesday)
Ray & Lois out to check things. Everything looks good. Overcast. in the 50's. 11:30 AM. Ray put D-Con in the cellar. Water got emptied. 12:35 Going to check out the west end & gates. Heading north.

November 28 (Saturday)
11:30 AM Helen, friend George & Ray in. 30 degrees Sunshine Beautiful Everything looks good. No sign of any mischief. 12:25 PM Vaughn and Bruce walked in. They are hunting. Headed to Sheep Mtn. Helen & George going to walk up on the rocks. Spring is flowing at a slow trickle. About 2 inches of ice in the tank. 1:35 PM headed out the north side.
