Friday July 15, 1994 Homestead
Beautiful day. Gary picked us up at 8:00 and drove straight thru to Montana City - he
bought a sandwich as he hadn't eaten breakfast. Dorrie and Chas. were there. Before we
got to the homestead there were 4 cars bumper to bumper. Hank & Joann Don P. & daughter
Cathy, Molly, Lois & Ray Smith were already there. Louise & Harry Rose, Gail & Larry
arrived with us.
Saturday July 17
Most everyone came early this year. There were about 65 by Sat. night.
We slept in the "outer bedroom" again. I sat on the porch and crocheted on the afghan when
most of the rest of them (except the men) climbed the rocks, hiked etc. Dorrie brot me a
big handful of strawberries. Lois took a pick-up load of us up by the Clara Belle mine to
get some quartz that they had camaflaged last year. Some one had beat them to it just
recently, but a little farther on was a small outcropping so they all got some pretty nice
chunks. Sat. eve we all gathered up where the Petersen's camp for a song & guitar fest.
Sunday July 18 - Home again
Sunday morning Lois took a bunch of us in the pick-up to the outer gate where she had
located the bitteroot, and we dug up about 8 roots for me to bring home. Lot's of food and
fun. I even went down the hill on the cardboard. Louis felt good and slept well - played
pinochle with Don Cecil and Charlie. Oh yes - I walked from the outer gate to the house!
We left right after dinner and drove straight thru with a stop in Harlow for some Pepsi.
