April 20 (Saturday)
4 P.M. Mom & Dad in, 1st trip of '74 52 degrees, broken clouds, light wind.
48 degrees at 7 P.M. still cloudy & windy.
Duane, Lin & Roger & Diamond drove in at 9:25 PM. 40 degrees clouds breaking up. light wind.

April 21 (Sunday)
40 degrees at 8:30 A.M. Clear, calm. Karen, Phil Bruce, Vaughn & Kevin came out 1:45 P.M. stayed until 4:15 P.M.
Duane, Lyn & family, & Mom & Dad leaving at 6:50 P.M. Dad decided to head for home & not wait until tomorrow. 58 degrees some overcast, calm.

May 9 (Thursday)
Dad in at 4 P.M. 62 degrees clear & windy. Stopped in Boulder about the jeep license, also the taxes. Had a load of fire wood sawed up a tel pole at Livingston 5-574
Drove up to the west gate after dinner. Some one cut a medium dead pin, cut it up and hauled it out. Also cut the big one in the rocks, cleaned up the big branches and cut up about 1/3 of the top end and hauled it out. OK, we wanted them cut down.

May 10 (Friday)
40 degrees at 8 AM calm and overcast. 46 degrees at 10:30 A.M. still overcast & calm. Leaving at 10:45 A.M. will stop and see Phil in Helena.

Did not stop as it was Vigilante parade day, too much traffic.

June 5 (Wednesday)
Dad in at 4:50 P.M. 60 degrees, windy scattered clouds. Saw Bob and one of the boys at the ranch. They intend to bring some dry cows up this p.m. Grass looks good. Bob and his man came in about 5:40 P.M. with the stock. 24 head. Brewed some coffee for them before they left, which was about 6:25 P.M. 50 degrees at 9:45 P.M. thin cloud over cast.
Towed the jeep pickup out.

June 6 (Thursday)
46 degrees at 7 AM, heavy overcast, calm. Have a cottontail around, the blue birds are nesting in thier bird house. A pair of wrens are building a nest in one of the lilac bushes.
Leaving at 10:55 A.M. broken clouds, a few scattered rain drops, calm. 52 degrees

June 18 (Tuesday)
Arlen Smith & Dad in at 5:35 P.M. Raining, sort of calm, 69 degrees. Quit raining 6:15 P.M. Broken overcast. 64 degrees at 10 P.M. still cloudy & threatening.

June 19 (Wednesday)
56 degrees at 7 A.M. clear & calm Arlen cut the grass plus other outside chores. I did the KP work. 70 degrees at 10 A.M. Leaving for home at 10:30 A.M. Broken clouds, calm.

June 22 (Saturday)
Mom & Dad in at 12:35 P.M. 80 degrees, calm w/scattered clouds.
Ray C Smith Family arrived 12:50 P.M. Ray moved the stove out and the ice box into place. We are in business to keep our beer cold. Lin, Duane Roger & Diamond got in about 9:30 P.M. Linda, Joe, & Daneil got in at 9:55 P.M. Had their camper on the pickup. 4 of the kids slept in camper. Brenda Smith (Ray's neice) came with them.

June 23 (Sunday)
Mostly a day of loafing except for the cooks & dishwashers. Had a bit of rain and cloudiness in the late afternoon cooled things off nicely. Joe & family & Duane & family left about 7 P.M. Helen S. punched a hole in her right leg just above the knee. Karen and Ray took her into the emergency room of St. Pete's Hosp for Dr attention. Took about 4 stitches. Hank & Joann got her 2:45 P.M. Karen, Vaughn & Kevin came about 3:00 P.M. left 9:20

June 24 (Monday)
No early birds, action started at 8:30 A.M. 57 degrees, calm, a few scattered clouds. Had breakfast and then started the fence moving job, came in for lunch at 1 P.M. Clear & warm 94 degrees at 3 P.M. Went out and did a few more preliminarys, all ready to finish on Tuesday.

June 25 (Tuesday)
58 degrees at 8 A.M. clear & calm. Fence crew, everyone but Grandma, Grandad, Lois, Carla & Helen went out at 7:30 AM. Came in about noon, all done except a few tie downs, and braces. Finished this in the P.M. Grandma, Grandad, Lois, Carla & Helen went into Helena for some ice, groceries and a "shot" for emphysema for grandad. Karen & Kevin came out in the evening.

June 26 (Wednesday)
56 degrees at 8 A.M. hazy, some wind. The radio says the "haze" is dust blown in. No particular chores this day. Ray & Brad went into Helena. Hank, Joann and everyone else except Gramma, Grandad went mine seeing around Wickes, Corbin etc. Some long hair came out w/Gerald about 1 PM stayed for about 45 min. Phillip Jr & Bruce came out 7:30. Kids climbed around the rocks & we gabbed. They left about 9:45 Took Kevin home with them. He came out with Ray.

June 27 (Thursday)
Temp 51 degrees 7:30 P.M. Partly cloudy slight breeze. Ray, Lois & kids left for home (Great Falls) 10:45 AM> Jo Ann washed all the windows Wed. AM. E.L. Petersen left for Livingston 1:30 P.M. ma stayed with Jo, Hank, & kids. Neidhardts went to Mont. City looking for panning dirt. Neidhardts hit pay dirt - few flakes of gold. 80 degrees at 5:45 PM.

June 28 (Friday)
Temp 58 degrees @ 7:30 A.M. clear & calm
Neidhardts packing. Mislaid insulin, it was in E.L.P. box. Phillip Jr came with insulin 8 A.M. Had breakfast. Ma & Neidhardts leaving 10:AM. Had a good time H.C.N.

July 7 (Sunday)
Temp. 78 degrees Calm. 1:00 PM Ray, Lois, Brad & Helen in from Lvtn with couch and chair, Carla in Lvtn with Grandma & Grandpa. Duane, Lin, Roger & Dime in at 1:05 PM. to help with couch, etc. Had a bit of lunch then men went to work on towbar and smelled smoke. Lightning had hit a tree in the second draw in line with west gate and ex-trailer site. BLM men showed up, no water, Ray & Duane had it about taken care of. Forest serve state guys showed up later. Back to cabin at 530 PM had headed to fire close to 330 PM. Getting ready to take off 5:45 PM 70 degrees all cleared off again.

July 16 (Tuesday)
Arlen Smith & Dad in at 11:50 A.M., scattered clouds, lite breeze.
Had lunch of fried chicken & coffee. Picked up odds & ends for little jeep. Leaving for Helena, Phils shop at 1:40 P.M.

July 21 (Sunday)
Lin, Duane Roger & Diamond in at 1:05 pm, few clouds, 90 degrees. Walked up to fence, nice hot day. Jack, Karen Matt, Jeff Shipley arrived at 8:20, gave them the tour. They left about 10:30. Cooling and clear starry night.

July 22 (Monday)
Nobody up early, hot with scattered clouds. 86 degrees at noon. Drove up to look at new fence. Climbed the rocks. It's cloudy and looks like rain, also a little thunder. Leaving at 2:45.

August 1 (Thursday)
The Smiths - Ray & Lois & bunch in at 6:55 PM to stay overnite. Stopped at Helena & saw St Georges for about an hour. Clear & calm 74 degrees at 7:00 PM. Done eating at 8:00 PM - Mom's chow main & beans were great! Cooling off nice so the fire in the stove not too hot. 62 degrees at 10:PM Went for a nice walk up to where fire was. almost dark when we came back.

August 2 (Friday)
Ray up at 7-AM - 52 degrees
Everyone up by 9:00AM Getting ready to go 10:AM. Ray went to spring - not too good - 2 in. in 5 gal containers in 10 min. Looks like a nice day.

Dad in at 7 P.M. 74 degrees, clear & calm. Finished dinner at 8:45 P.M. Pork chops & cooked potato. 64 degrees at 10 P.M. a few clouds, calm. Didn't see any cattle Bob M. may have moved them.

August 3 (Saturday)
56 degrees at 7:30 A.M., cloudy, hazy & calm. Did some cleaning here & there will lunch in Townsend. Leaving at 2:30 P.M. 86 degrees, light wind, hazy. Dad.

August 8 (Thursday)
Mom & Dad in at 4:55 P.M. 52 degrees calm, heavy clouds, ground is real wet, rain barrels full. Heard Pres. Nixon talk on his forthcoming resignation, to go into effect tomorrow noon. 48 degrees at 10:45 P.M. clear & calm.

August 9 (Friday)
51 degrees at 8:30 A.M. calm, completely overcast. Light shower at 10:40 AM
A wee bit of sunshine at 1:45 P.M. 63 degrees at 4:30 P.M., have had some sunshine. 54 degrees at 10 P.M., calm

August 10 (Saturday)
52 degrees at 8:15 A.M. calm & clear, beautiful day. 3: P.M Gerald & friend came out for a short visit.

Gene, Marge, Kenny Porter came out 3:30 P.M. Greg, Bruce & Kevin came in about 5:P.M stayed 15 min.
Porters left at 8:30 P.M. Had dinner at 6. Marge brot rolls and zuchini bread. Very good.

August 11 (Sunday)
52 degrees at 8 A.M. overcast, a few spots of blue sky, a bit of rain, calm. It rained during the night. 57 degrees at 12 noon, still overcast, a few blue spots. Peggy L, daughters Patrice, Penny & Denise, son Larry & their families (8 kids 9 adults) drove in about 12:30 PM, stayed til 1:45. They were on their way fishing & for a picnic. Cloudy & looks like it may rain but hasn't yet. 62 degrees at 4:30 P.M., sunshiny, a few scattered clouds. Greg, Bruce & Kevin & friend came about 7: P.M. left half hour later. Duane, Lin & Roger came about 7:30 P.M. will stay til Tues. Played Pinochle. Dealt 7 hands played 1, Mom & Duane won 1 game

August 12 (Monday)
50 degrees at 8:30 A.M. calm, clear except for some haze. Had breakfast 9:15. 72 degrees at at 1: P.M. partly cloudy. Had a shower about 3: P.M., Shower??? Hail & streams at 3.20 pm 52 degrees at 340 pm Thunder & lightning. Sprung a leak in the kitchen. Lots of rain; Mom & Dad Petersen left at 7:30pm (Dad had 1500 trump in clubs before lunch). Light sprinkle, cleared up for a short while cloudy at 12:30 a.m.

August 13 (Tuesday)
Slowpokes in bed till 9:15, very cloudy & overcast, 52 degrees, looks like rain or snow. 12 noon - 56 degrees. Cloudy. Spring running well but still too muddy. To Macks for H2O. Pete patched roof later. Got 3 5 gal. containers of H2O. 300 pm. Duane, Lin, Roger, & Dime left. Still cloudy. 58 degrees. On way out door started to rain.

August 24 (Saturday)
Mom & Dad in at 2:05PM 76 degrees, cloudy & calm. quite damp from the 1.31 inches of rain 8-20. Lois Barker, Mike & Susan Krygier came about 2-25 P.M.

August 25 (Sunday)
58 degrees at 8:15 A.M. calm & thin clouds. Had breakfast 9:30-. Lois, Susan & Mike went hiking & Ray, Lois Carla, Brad & Helen drove in 11:55 A.M. Sunshiny & warm. Had a lazy day, got water at the spring. Went down to the old Liverpool mine looking for weathered wood, also took jeep pickup on to Clancy to get gas. Ray, Lois & family esxcept Carla left at 8 P.M. Carla is going to Livingston w/gramma & grandad to visit for a week.
Gerald & friend, also Kevin & Vaughn were here for an hour. gave Gerald his birthday pkg.

August 26 (Monday)
54 degrees at 8 A.M. calm & broken clouds. Thru breakfast at 9:30 AM. Cleaning up & packing. Lois & Susan & Mike ready to leave 11: AM. Ma & Pa & Carla leaving at 11:55 A.M. 72 degrees, Clear & calm.

August 31 (Saturday)
Ray, Lois, Brad, Helen and Carla's friend Robbee lyn Roberts in at 11:30 AM. Sunny - 65 degrees but clouds are moving in. Gramma, Carla & Grandad got here at 1:30 P.M.
Ray & Lois took out the ice box & set up the heater. 6 P.M. looks like we will use the heater this evening. Raining at 7 P.M. Still raining 10:45 48 degrees Temp. 10:45.

September 1 (Sunday)
44 degrees at 8:30 A.M., calm, heavy overcast. Duane, Lin's mom, Lin, Roger & Diamond came at 11:30 A.M. Did some dead tree cutting & some other chores. Ray & family left at 8:10 P.M. 56 degrees, quite clear, calm, the first snow of the fall on the McClellan Range. 38 degrees 11:30 P.M.

September 2 (Monday)
47 degrees - 9:30 AM. Beautiful day. clear sky, light breeze, 66 degrees at 4 P.M. About packed up to leave for home. Duane took Mrs. Ong on a tour of the place in the jeep pickup, before lunch. Mom & dad off at 4:15. Duane will lock up and then leave. Duane, Lin, & Roger & Grammy left at 5:00 pm. Very beautiful & warm day.

September 28 (Saturday)
Ray, Lois, Carla, Brad, & Helen in at 1:10 PM - 58 degrees partly cloudy. Stopped at Helena for short bit. Will close things for the winter and take jeep to Livingston tomorrow. John & Allison Smith in about 2:10 PM. Turned out a beautiful day. Checked the upper gates. At 10:PM 48 degrees and clear.

September 29 (Sunday)
40 degrees at 7:30 AM overcast. Saw ducks flying over. Getting ready to go at 9:40 AM Temp still 40 degrees.
