April 12 (Wednesday)

First trip since last fall, (left Nov. 5, 71) arrived at 1:50 P.M., left Livingston at 11 A.M. several snow and rain storms on the way. It started to snow here at 2:30 P.M. didn't last any time, but did "spit" off and on during the P.M. Everything ok at the cabin. no snow on the road coming in - 50 degrees at 1:50 P.M. Tried to call Mac & Ginny from E. Helena but no answer.

April 13 (Thursday)
30 degrees at 7:00 A.M. calm, snowing heavily, almost an inch on the ground. Helena says wind west at 21 M.P.H. not so here. 9:30 32 degrees still snowing. 10 AM about 3 inches of snow still snowing. 36 degrees at 12 noon, a little fine snow falling. Saw a gopher up in the corner (S.E.) April 13, 71 was the first trip last year. 5 P.M. 40 degrees above, calm, overcast. Phil & Kevin came out about 6:30 P.M. Karen was on call. They left about 8:45 P.M. 36 degrees at 10 P.M. clear & calm

April 14 (Friday)
36 degrees at 8 P.M. broken clds, calm. 1:30 PM. leaving for Livingston via Boulder sky quite clear. windy, 48 degrees. Taking wheel barrow & lawn mower. Bluebirds are back, looking over the old bird house. I put up the new one on the west end of the cabin.

April 21 (Friday)
Dad in at 2:55 P.M. 52 degrees and overcast, a few sprinkles and a bit of wind. Tried to call Mac J. but no answer. Found 2 wood ticks aboard this evening. 38 degrees at 9:30 P.M. hazy - windy -.

April 22 (Saturday)
31 degrees at 7 A.M. scattered clds, windy. Went down beyond the South gate after lunch and cleaned up some trees left by "Christmas tree cutters" 44 degrees at 4 P.M. Also cut some fir fire wood for the heater. Phil, Bruce & Kevin came out at 4:30 PM left about 5:35 P.M. Bruce rode a motorcycle out from the Mont. City interchange 30 degrees at 9:30 P.M. clear & calm. Saw 3 deer near the Black Quartz Prospect hole this evening

April 23 (Sunday)
30 degrees at 7:15 AM> calm, some clouds. Did some housecleaning after breakfast. kitchen - dining, livingroom & bedroom, will do the outer bedroom tomorrow. Phil, Gerald, Bruce, & Kevin came out about 11 A.M. left at 3:30 P.M. 58 degrees at 5 P.M. clear & calm. Saw the 3 deer again this evening in a bout the same place. 40 degrees at 9:30 P.M. some overcast, calm.

April 24 (Monday)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to those who have a birthday today. 40 degrees at 7 AM, calm, some cloud cover. Did some more housecleaning this a.m. the outer bedroom, washed a window or two, took down the old curtains. 60 degrees at 12 noon, overcast & calm. Mac & Wayne Zachau (diesel man w/ BN) came out about 4 P.M. left at 5:20 P.M. Zachau is at Lvtn. Phil, Vaughn & Kevin came out about 7 P.M. left about 9 P.M. 48 degrees at 9 P.M. Saw about 6 deer this afternoon in the same place.

April 25 (Tuesday)
40 degrees at 7:45 AM., a few clouds, lite wind. Shot a porcupine last nite (about 12:15 A.M. he was under the porch, some snow on the ground then, it is melting off fast. Leaving at 11:55 A.M. for Livingston via Townsend. 49 degrees at 11:30 A.M. some sunshine but cloudy & windy.

May 2 (Tuesday)
Dad in at 6:30 P.M. 52 degrees calm, some overcast. A quick trip with some planks, will leave about 9:30 AM tomorrow

May 3 (Wednesday)
34 degrees at 6:45 A.M. clear, calm. Leaving at 9:30 AM hazy overcast & calm.

May 5 (Friday)
Mom & Dad in at 3:20 P.M. had lunch in Townsend. 44 degrees, heavy overcast, wind in the north. 44 degrees at 10 P.M. broken overcast, calm.

May 6 (Saturday)
39 degrees at 7 A.M. overcast & foggy, calm, trace of moisture. Duane Lyn & Roger (and Diamond) came at 9:30 A.M. just in time for breakfast. Snowing. The Smiths came at 100 PM
Barely snowing. Phillip, Karen Bruce & Kevin came about 3 P.M. Duane & Lin left for home 5:30. Cloudy all P.M. Karen & Phillip left about 6 P.M, Brad went with them. Smiths stayed here overnite. Played Pinochle. Men won 1, women won 2. Pa & Ma's 45th Wedding Anniversary.

May 7 (Sunday)
36 degrees - 8 A.M. cloudy. rain in the nite. Breakfast 10 A.N, Pa made hotcakes. Phillip Bruce Kevin & Brad came about 11 A.M. Phillip went back to town. Phillip, Karen & all the boys came at 1:30 P.M. Had dinner, Smiths left at 5 P.M., St Georges left 6 P.M. Cloudy all day. Chilly. 45 degrees - 6 P.M.

May 8 (Monday)
40 degrees at 8:30 AM, heavy overcast, calm. Light mist falling at 10 A.M. Still misting at 12 noon Leaving about 12:05 P.M. 43 degrees, calm, overcast.

May 21 (Sunday)
60 degrees at 1:15 P.M. Dad just arrived. wind blowing, scattered clouds. Bob M has the cattle in. Phil, Bruce & Kevin came out about 4:30 for about 3/4 of an hour. 48 degrees at 10:30 P.M. some clouds, calm. Shot another "porky" under the porch at 10:15 P.M.

May 22 (Monday)
46 degrees at 7:30 A.M. overcast, calm. Leaving via the "Kennedy" for Helena 10:15 AM 50 degrees
Back at 2:40 P.M. Took the "Porky" down near the Maggie & put him in a prospect hole. Did a little road work. Phil, Karen, Vaughn & Kevin came out about 8 P.M. left at 9:20 P.M. after coffee. 44 degrees at 10:30 PM broken clds, calm.

May 23 (Tuesday)
43 degrees at 7 A.M. calm, clouds are coming up. Have a little cottontail living in or at the woodshed. 52 degrees at 9:50 A.M. Sunny & calm. Leaving for Livingston via Boulder.

May 26 (Friday)
Mom & dad in at 3:45 PM 52 degrees overcast & raining. Sort of drizzle all p.m. & evening. 48 degrees at 10:30 P.M. overcast & calm.

May 27 (Saturday)
48 degrees at 8 A.M. some clouds, some sunshine, calm. Duane & family in at 1:45 P.M. Warm, clear, almost full moon. Karen, Kevin, Vaughn here in the afternoon. Phillip & boys stayed in trailer all nite.

May 28 (Sunday)
55 degrees - 8:15 a.m. 75 degrees 2 P.M. Clear Sunshine, calm. Smiths came 10 A.M. Vaughn came from trailer & all went up on the rocks and all over. Ray, Duane & Emil sawed down a huge old pine by the lower spring. It was dead but still firm. We all drove down to look at it. Karen Bruce & Kevin came along. Had dinner 2:30 P.M. also had our 1st watermelon brot by Duane. Smiths for home 5:15 P.M. Duane Lin, Dad & Me played Pinochle.

May 29 (Monday)
55 degrees 8 A.M. Sunny, warm calm. Named as Memorial day so is supposed to be a holiday. 78 degrees 6 P.M.

May 30 (Tuesday)
46 degrees 6:30 A.M.
Duane, Lin & Roger left 8:05 A.M.
Mom & Dad leaving at 11:25 A.M. Via Boulder. 72 degrees clear, light SE wind

June 3 (Saturday)
Dad in at 2:45 P.M. 74 degrees, wind and scattered clds Cut the lawn & chopped out the weeds in the garden.
56 degrees at 10 P.M. Cloudy, had a rain shower this evening.

June 4 (Sunday)
50 degrees at 7:15 A.M. Cloudy, calm, some showers during the nite. Planted a few sun flower seeds. Leaving at 9:45 A.M. via Boulder. 60 degrees windy, fairly clear.

June 16 (Friday)
MON & DAD in at 8:20 P.M. cloudy, lie wind, 65 degrees. 66 degrees at 11 P.M. overcast & windy.
Had been a hard rain sometime during the week. Didn't last long but did a lot of washing from the looks of things. Road up to the hs badly washed out a number of places. Deep ruts.

June 17 (Saturday)
58 degrees at 7:30 AM clear and calm. shot a porcupine about 4:30 AM he was trying to demolish the porch.
74 degrees - 1:30 P.M.
Phillip, a friend, & Kevin came out 3:15 P.M. Left 4:30 P.M. Set up the ice box & took out the heating stove in the a.m.

June 18 (Sunday)
51 degrees at 8 P.M., scattered clouds, lite S.W. wind. Karen, Phillip, Bruce, Vaughn Kevin came out about 11 A.M. Went home 1:30.
Phillip, Gerald, Greg M. Prien came about 3:10 AM left at 5:40 P.M.

June 19 (Monday)
40 degrees at 7:15 AM, clear & calm Sunshine
Mom & Dad leaving at 11:10 A.M., 58 degrees scattered clouds, lite wind.

June 23 (Friday)
Dad in at 6 P.M. raining 55 degrees,. No cattle in sight.

June 24 (Saturday)
50 degrees at 7:30 A.M., scattered clouds. Had a bad night, should have stayed home, may leave for home before Duane gets here, Sunshine about 11 A.M. after a shower
Rosemary, Lyn, Duane & Roger drove in at 12:30 P.M.
Philip and Bruce, Vaughn & Kevin in at 1:30. Started raining about then. Dad and Phil and boys left at 2:40. Stopped raining 3:10 Clear, blue sky & sunshine Nice! Started raining 5:25.

June 25 (Sunday)
44 degrees at 715. Rose Mary started fire by self at 600 am. Plan to give her party. Clear & beautiful this am. Smiths arrived about 1130 AM. Cloudy. Phil, Bruce & Kevin out at same time. St. Georges left shortly. We ate about 1 o'clock, too much food! Showers of & on. 59 degrees at 300 PM. Everyone getting ready to leave - after 3 o'clock -

July 3 (Monday)
Mom & Dad in at 2:30 PM 66 degrees, scattered clds, lite wind. Bob M. has taken the cattle out. Gerald was here. also Karen, Phil Sr, Phil Jr, Bruce Vaughn & Kevin
They went back to the trailer about 10:30 P.M. 50 degrees & calm also clear. Kids stopped at Jackson Creek & shot off their firecrackers.

July 4 (Tuesday)
49 degrees at 8 A.M. clear, calm. Changed sheets on our bed. Phillip & Bruce here for a few minutes about 10 AM.

Phill, Phillip, Gerald Greg, Bruce, Vaughn, Kevin came here at 2:10. Phillip Jr & friend left about 3 and the others stayed for supper. Left about 8 P.M. 58 degrees at 10:30 P.M. clear & calm.

July 5 (Wednesday)
58 degrees at 8 AM., lite breeze, clear. Leaving at 11:45 A.M. 72 degrees Scattered clds, lite wind.

July 31 (Monday)
Arrived at 2:45 PM from Livingston & Colorado Springs Mom, Don, Kathy, Andie, David & "wonder dog" Ginger. Karen, Phillip & all were already up the gulch.

August 1 (Tuesday)
60 degrees at 8 AM clear & calm
Ginger & Mom up first, then David, Don followed by two sleeping "beautys" Kathy & Andie

Joe, Linda, Daneil, Joe's two boys Mike & Greg - here about noon. Thundershowers. Smiths arrived about 3:40 PM Sunny then clouded up & showered. Summers left about 9 o'clock. Smiths stayed all night.

August 2 (Wednesday)
Overcast all AM. Mom up 1st followed by Lois & Carla. Phil & Bruce out before 9 AM. Had coffee ready. The bunch ate pancakes with DHP playing cook - no too bad a cook! 66 degrees at 1130 AM. St Georges were here for supper, Smiths left 8:30 P.M.

August 3 (Thursday)
Clouds & sun at 8 AM 49 degrees (Brrr) Smith left last nite @ 9:30 PM. St Georges left @ 9:30 PM. Don, Kathy, Ginger Andie & David went to Missoula & got back 10:20 P.M. Greg stayed all nite. Karen & Phillip were out.

August 4 (Friday)
8:0 AM 55 degrees Grandma got up at 8:25 It's clear and calm
Aug. 4 130 PM 82 degrees in shade. Petersens (Inc me) leaving for Livingston about 1:45 P.M. St Georges closing up shop.

September 1 (Friday)
Mom & Dad in at 3:154 P.M. 70 degrees, lite breeze, a few clouds.

September 2 (Saturday)
44 degrees at 7:30 A.M. calm, a few clouds. Lin, Duane, & Roger came about 11:10 A.M. have to go back after lunch as Lin is having trouble with her teeth. Ray, Lois, Carla, Brad, & Helen came at 11:45 A.M. Phil, Karen & kids came about 4:30 P.M. Lin, Duane & Roger went home at 4:40 P.M. Lin is having trouble with some of her teeth.

September 3 (Sunday)
44 degrees at 7:30 A.M. broken cloud overcast, calm.
Men out looking over the old trees to be used as fire wood. 76 degrees at 12 N. Lovely weather. John S. & friend Sara drove in at 11:30 A.M. Vaughn, Bruce & Brad were here from Helena 12 N. Karen, Phillip & other boys were here off & on during the afternoon. We went up to the trailer house to see the new painting job. Smiths left for Great Falls at 8:30 P.M. Karen, Phillip & boys left at 9:30 P.M. Gerald was 15 yrs old today. He had his cake & candles here.

September 4 (Monday)
LABOR DAY 48 degrees at 8:00 A.M. clear, (a bit hazy) calm. At least this is one holiday they didn't change.
Bruce & Phillip dropped in 10:30 A.M. Left 11:10. Peggy Longfellow, son Larry & wife Marlene, Toby (daughter) son, daughter Penny, husband Bill, son , Jerry Longfellow & son were here for 2 hrs left at 2 P.M. We are now leaving for Livingston 78 degrees, 2:40 P.M. a few scattered clds, breeze.

September 9 (Saturday)
Ray, Brad & Grandad in at 1:30 P.M. via Boulder. 70 degrees, overcast, calm
64 degrees at 3:55, cldy windy, leaving at 4 P.M. w/ the jeep pickup which we will tow from Marks'

September 21 (Thursday)
5 P.M. Joann, Hank, Dana, Sheila & Paul are here, nice overcast, Temp 70 degrees. Hank on vacation - 5 days spent on early bull season - no luck. Karen, Phil, Greg, Vaughn & Kevin out to visit. Nice warm evening.

September 22 (Friday)
7:30 A.M. Hank up first - kids awake. 38 degrees & cloudy. Sprinkled a little during the night - some snow up high. Mom & Dad arrived 5:45 P.M. Sunshiny. 68 degrees temp Phillip Jr & Vaughn came out 6:20 P.M. for an hour. Brot a paper. Phil is sick, Karen on call. 43 degrees at 9:45 P.M. clouds coming up in the east.

September 23 (Saturday)
40 degrees at 7:15 A.M. heavy overcast, calm.
Duane, Lin, Roger & dog came over from Great Falls 12:30 P.M. Partly cloudy & partly sunshine
Duane et al let 7:30 P.M. for Msla 36 degrees at 9:30 P.M. Hank, Jo, Mom & Dad played Pinochle.

September 24 (Sunday)
34 degrees at 8 AM overcast & calm. Joann, I & Dana Sheila & Paul had a nice climb to the top of the rocks - Highest Point.
Beautiful view w/ scattered snow squalls. Had a very nice & restful time out here. Mom & Dad left @ 12 - sun just came out.
